Hutch's Red 1934 Ford 2-Door Sedan
In March of 1983, a Bronze body and Black fender 1934 Ford 2-Door Sedan was purchased by Lynwood R Hutchens Sr (better known as "Hutch") from Denny Henderson. After the car was taken to a few car shows, Hutch decided in the fall of 1983 to rebuild the car to his vision. Robby, Hutch's son, worked with his father in the new build of the 1934 Ford 2-Door Sedan Street Rod. Robby only being 12 years old at the time and called by many "Little Hutch", was being taught by his father the wonderful world of Street Rodding. Hutch was teaching Robby how to do mechanical, electrical, proper use of all sorts of tools and the ups and downs of building a Street Rod - body off frame build. After a long rebuild and many hours spent, the family of Hutch, Sandy (wife) and Robby took the car to its very first rod run/car show in 1985 to Shenandoah Acres in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. The Red '34 Ford was a fresh build and was parked with the member's cars of the hosting car club - Shenandoah Valley Street Rod Association - President: The late Jerry Conner.
After that first car show, the car was driven by Hutch to many car shows with fellow Street Rodders and car enthusiasts of all types. Some of the memorable shows that the car went to were:
Numerous Local and State of Virginia Shows: Covington, VA, Williamsburg, VA, New Market, VA, Colonial Beach, VA
Out of State Shows: Elkins, WV, Pigeon Forge, TN,
NSRA Mini Nationals: York, PA, Tampa, FL & Knoxville TN
NSRA Nationals: Louisville, KY Three times.
Hutch and Sandy both enjoyed going and socializing with other Street Rodders and Custom Car owners on weekends as the car accumulated 20,490 miles throughout the years. This accumulation of miles proved that Hutch's Red '34 Ford was not a trailer queen but rather a driver as Hutch would always comment at shows looking at other cars. Hutch had a belief and I quote, "The Red '34 Ford will never be trailered, a true Street Rod is always driven everywhere."
Hutch's love for Street Rods and his fathering nature allowed his son to follow in his footsteps and have a passion for Street Rods and Custom Cars. As the years went by, Robby developed an even deeper passion for cars and collected several cars of his own that he and his father enjoyed together by both being retired. However, after a long life of being a Street Rodder, a great husband and wonderful father, Hutch, passed away on May 11, 2023 at the age of 70 to be with our Lord.
With his father's passing, Robby decided to cruise in memory of his father with other fellow Street Rodders and car enthusiasts alike. With that being said, Robby looks at cars as Shadows of the Past - that have memories, family ties, creates fellowship, friendships, a bond, and many stories to share. Robby has taken his view of custom cars, along with his roots, and created a logo in which he and others can cruise by as a way of expressing those ideas and beliefs for all to see. Robby didn't want a typical or a formal car club - but yet a informal group of men and women who like to cruise together as friends with a love for cars of all types that does not require any membership dues or no money collected, no specific vehicle type, no mandatory meetings, no mandatory shows, no drama, no car club politics, no BS - but rather a requirement to create, share and build fond memories whenever any of us can cruise together. With those beliefs and ideas, "Shadows of the Past Custom Cars" was born........
